THE ILLUSION OF EMOTIONAL PAIN

There are two types of pain: physical pain, which is as much real as our body is, and emotional pain which is as much an illusion as our mind is. What is it with our emotions? Are they real? What if they were not? What if they were just a product of our imagination? Life is emotions, living is experiencing emotions. So what does it mean that emotional pain is an illusion? We experience it as a strong feeling. It can even manifest into a physical pain, sometimes we can feel it in our heart, sometimes deep in our belly. And it feels so real, it feels so painful. Yet, if at that moment we decide to change our focus to a positive thought, the pain can dissolve and may be replaced with a joyful feeling. We may then forget it even happened. Was it real?

EMOTION IS AN ENERGY

Everything is energy, our thoughts, our physical body, and our emotions. We are energies vibrating at different levels, and different speeds. If these vibrations rise very high, matter will disappear; the physical body will disappear, as well as all heavy thoughts and emotions. If we lower our vibrations, we feel very dense and heavy, crave heavy, unhealthy food, hold dark thoughts and desires, and experience negative emotions. Pain and all other negative emotions only exist at a certain vibration. Depending on which frequency our energy is, we will experience different kind of thoughts and emotions. If we are in bliss, nothing can touch us or cause us pain. On the contrary if we are caught in a dark spiral, everything will be a challenge and cause us to suffer. In both cases the outside world is exactly the same, but the difference in energy and vibration will determine our experience. It will determine what we will see, think and feel. It is all very subjective. The quality of our energy determines the quality of our life.

EMOTION IS SUFFERING

Emotions are the main cause of our suffering. If we don`t experience emotions then there is nothing. There is no pain, no desire, no suffering. Without emotion we just see life as it exactly is, with a clear perception and without any projections. Without emotion we just become watcher of this movie we are playing. We do not try to change it or wish for it to be different because we REALLY DON`T MIND how it is and how it will end up. Without emotion there is no suffering.

EMOTIONAL SUFFERING IS IN THE MIND

Emotional suffering is in the mind and the mind only. The pain we experience exists because there is a dichotomy between what is and what we want. We want something that is not there, or we don`t want something that is there. Therefore we are not happy and suffer. We are driven by all our desires and yet despite all we have, we are never satisfied. Always wanting is the main cause of our suffering. Acceptance and surrender are the tools that will free us. Whether we have nothing or we have it all, we will always want more. We always want what we don`t have, and we are never fulfilled with what we have. This is the problem of the mind as we’ve seen previously. Liberation from suffering will come when we stop fighting against life, and when we start being happy with what we have and who we are.

How to meditate: listening for mindfulness

Simple meditation technique

This meditation technique is very simple yet can bring great results.

Again, start by finding a nice place to meditate and sit comfortably for twenty minutes or more.

Have a few deep breaths.

Then listen.

Start listening to any noise that you can hear.

Close or far away.

Birds` songs.

Car horns.

People chatting.

Rain.

Only focus your attention on listening to what is being said right now.

Every time you catch your mind wandering in imaginative situations just stop that thread of thoughts where it is and start listening again.

Do not put a name on what you are hearing “oh that`s a bird”, “that`s my neighbor starting his car”, “that`s a plane”, etc

Just listen

No judging, no labeling, no story telling from ”the noise”.

Just be aware

Just listen

Just be mindful

Just be

You are in the moment, you are present, you are listening.

Happiness is in the mind

THE MIND IS YOUR HAPPINESS

The thoughts that cross your mind will either make you happy or not. It is not your life or what`s happening in it which makes you happy, but your perception of it. This is the half full/ half empty cup which we talked earlier. If you think negative thoughts, you will not feel good and vice versa. Now you know that you can control your mind. So you understand that you are solely responsible for the quality of your life and your state of happiness. There is nothing wrong in being delighted in dramas, fears and worries if it is a conscious choice, and if somehow that makes you happy. But if it is true happiness that you are after, peace and bliss, then only you can provide it for yourself. No one else can do it for you. No outside circumstances will bring it to you and no amount of money can buy it. This is your work, decide how you want to walk this journey which is life, happy or not.

CONTROLLING THE MIND

Learning how to control the mind is work that we should all learn at elementary school. We do learn to develop the left side of our brain, and to focus and concentrate our mind on some given problems. But we are not taught that it is also important to use our mind wisely outside the school facilities. And more importantly we are not taught how not to use the mind when we do not need it. The western way of teaching has created children with a very intelligent mind but which quickly becomes out of control because of its overuse.  We make them forget it is just a tool, and encourage identification with the mind. That is one of the causes of the many depressive and suicidal tendencies developing during teenage years. The burden of the mind and negative thoughts become so overwhelming that the person cannot cope with their own thoughts. They do not know how to find the peace and the awareness of who they really are outside the mind. In an ideal world, school would teach children to develop equally both sides of the brain. And they would learn how to focus and use their mind to solve problems, as well as how to turn the mind off in order to not over load it and stay stress free. Power surges of the brain have become way too common in our western world. How many people have turned to drugs, alcohol or medication to find, even if it is for a short time, that peace and quiet inside them?  And then it becomes an addiction. We want to stay high. We want to stay happy. We want to stay blissfully peaceful. We`ll do anything to escape the incessant chatter inside our head. If only someone had taught us that we do not need any outside substance to turn it off. If only someone had taught us that we could be in control. People are telling you right now, all over the world. Don`t search for any more excuses not to start doing the work. It is never too late. You`ll never be too old or too young to learn meditation. It is just a question of will. Do you want to be controlled, or do you want to be in control?

LIVING WITH THE MIND

Imagine a life where you are totally free and happy, where there is no fear, no worries, and no problems. Imagine if you could live each day to the fullest. Carpe diem! Imagine if you could play life as if it was a big game. Imagine…When you know your mind and how to control it, that`s when you start living in harmony with your mind. That doesn`t mean your mind will disappear altogether. It just means that your mind won`t have any more power over you. You will choose to listen to it or not. You will choose to listen to it when it offers you reasonable solutions to a concrete problem in your life now. For example: what is the best way to invest my money right now? Which is the quickest way to go from A to B? How much is a two kilo bag of apples if they cost five dollars a kilo? Etc. You will choose not to listen to it when it mumbles on and on about improbable stress situations in an improbable future, such as: what if I don`t make it in time for my dentist appointment? Maybe I won`t be able to pay the rent next month. What if my car breaks down while I’m driving a country road in the middle of the night? Etc. You will choose to smile when you hear fearful thoughts, as if you are smiling at an innocent child, as you will know these thoughts are not real. And then you will start living, as you will understand that there is actually no fear to have, that there are actually no problems in life. You will know that each fear, each problem is a creation of the mind and as such they don`t really exist. You will be walking hand in hand with your mind but you won`t be fooled by it any more. There will be no more separation. You will be at one and at peace with life.

Searching for the light

We all have our moments of darkness, of fears, of anger, of worries.

We  are all looking for more love, for more light, for more happiness.

We  are all feeling lost, wandering this earth, wondering for meaning.

We all want to be loved, to find peace, to be free.

We are all looking for ourselves, searching for our purpose.

We are all trying to escape through work, drugs, alcohol, or busyness.

We are all walking this earth wondering who we are, why are we here.

We are all searching for the light.

We are all having this joy, this peace, this love within us.

We all have this light inside of us.

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round,
or listened to rain slapping the ground?

 

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight,
or gazed at the sun fading into the night?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,
time is short, the music won’t last.

Do you run through each day on the fly,
when you ask “How are you?”, do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed,

How to meditate: A simple visualization technique

There are two types of meditation: one uses the mind, the other tries to let go of it.

Visualization is a meditation technique that uses the mind.

Today technique aims to train the mind to be more focused, more under control while experiencing with energy at the same time.

This simple visualization technique uses colors.

After sitting in a comfortable meditation position, we will take a few deep breaths for a couple of minutes.

Then we visualize, or imagine, or think (if we can`t “see”) of a color.

With each in-breath we imagine breathing in this color and filling every cells of our body with it.

With each out-breath we imagine this same color leaving every cells of our being bringing with it all fears, pain, and any negative emotions or problems we are having.

We can do that for 10 minutes, then for another 10 minutes we just stay in meditation without trying to do or control anything.

We can experience with any color.

you can try this simple meditation for a week, with a different color each day.

Try red- orange-yellow- green- blue- indigo- white. (The colors of the chakras).

Notice how you feel after each meditation.

Notice how different you feel with each color.
