WHAT IS FEAR?
Fear is a production of the mind. The mind is an illusion and so fear is an illusion. It is not real. Fear does not really exist. It is an emotion created by certain thoughts. These thoughts, as we have seen earlier, are projections into the past or into the future, they are not of the NOW. These thoughts will create improbable future scenarios that if played up would engender a situation of stress for the subject. The brain and the body do not differentiate what is real from what is a projection of the mind, and as such will react as if the subject is under attack in the present. They will prepare the body for flight or fight, send out adrenaline and accelerate the heart beat. The person will then experience fear. It does not mean that there is actually something to be fearful of right now. On the contrary, most of our feelings of fear are happening when nothing is really happening. In really ‘scary’ situations, when your actual physical body is in danger of being attacked and hurt, these thoughts of fear ARE NOT. In these situations, your body will react with the fight or flight response, but your awareness will focus about what to do now to avoid or limit the danger and the physical pain. You are so in the moment that you don`t have time to think ‘I am scared’. You just observe and act, and sometimes with total peace of mind. Later, after the event you may say ‘I was so scared!’ but the moment is gone and in that moment you weren`t really scared.
FEAR IS IN THE MIND AND THE MIND ONLY
A problem is only a problem if you think it is. And to go further, a problem is only a problem if you think. If you do not think, if your mind is blank, then there is nothing. There are no judgments, nothing is good, nothing is bad, there are no problems and there are no fears. The body does not think. It acts or rather reacts with built-in memory cells appropriate for each situation. As we`ve seen earlier, the brain (which is different from the mind, the brain being a physical part of the body) does not make any differentiation between an actual physical danger and a thought induced ’danger’, and will transmit the danger information to the body which in turn will react. So all your fears (about the future, about money, about how to make ends meet, about relationships and so on), will trigger a physical fear- related response from your body. No wonder that in such a stressful society everybody is getting sick, as the body cannot cope with so much danger. For the body it was probably safer to live among dinosaurs! These fears (money, work and so on) do not really exist. I mean they are never happening right now as you think them. They are all a worry of some sort concerning the short or long term future.Right NOW nothing is really threatening you.
